These instructions will walk through a series of troubleshooting steps for when your Chromebook is not charging properly. You may run into charging problems when your device has run completely out of battery, or has been left to sit at 0% battery for a period of time. With these steps, our aim is to make sure your charging LED indicator light comes on and stays on, and observe if the Chromebook begins to charge.
To begin , please have both the Chromebook and the charging cable handy and follow these steps:
1. Begin with your Chromebook unplugged. With the device lid closed and the charging cable connected to a wall outlet, plug in the Chromebook on the left side of the device. (Make sure that the hinges face away from you, and the side that opens faces towards you.) Wait, and make a note of what the LED indicator light right next to the charging cable is doing. It will be one of these options:
A. The LED light will flash, and then light up solid red. Watch the light for ~30 seconds to make sure it remains on and solid red in color, and if it does, leave your Chromebook to sit and charge for 10 minutes.
B. The LED light will flash, and then blink red. Unplug the charging cable from the Chromebook, and then re-plug in the charging cable to the Chromebook and try again. Watch for any of these options. If the indicator light continues to flash red, please contact us for further assistance.
C. The LED light will flash any color, and then go dark. When this happens, unplug the charging cable from your Chromebook, and then unplug the cable itself from the wall. Re-plug the cable into the wall, and then try plugging it in to your Chromebook again. Watch for any of these options.
D. The LED lights up solid amber, or solid white/green. Open the Chromebook lid and wait for the device to boot. If the screen is not turning on, check the status of the power LED along the right edge of the device. If the button is lit up white, you may need to reset your Chromebook to boot it. Locate the 'Refresh' key near the top middle of the keyboard (looks like a small arrow in a circle). Hold this key down, and tap the power button along the right edge of your Chromebook. Let go of both keys, and wait for the Chromebook to boot.
E. The LED does not light up. When this happens, unplug the charging cable from your Chromebook, and then unplug the cable itself from the wall. Re-plug the cable into the wall, and then try plugging it in to your Chromebook again. Watch for any of these options.
2. After watching for any of the above options and following the directions on the one that applies to your Chromebook, you should now be waiting for your Chromebook to charge, or have a Chromebook that has turned on. If you are waiting for your Chromebook to charge, come back in 10 minutes and check on the LED indicator light again. Refer to the above options once more.
3. Now that your device has come back on, make a note of what the screen says on your device. If you are asked for your student login information, your Chromebook is ready to use. Allow it to fully charge, and please do your best to make sure that it does not completely die in the future. Always charge your Chromebook when it is getting low.
